Emissions Test (AU) in Berlin-Rudow

An integral part of the main inspection since 2010, automatically included with us.

What is it about?

At the TÜV NORD Station Berlin-Rudow, your vehicle is tested using modern measurement technology as part of your main inspection.

How does the emissions test work?

  1. 1. Visual inspection : We examine the visible parts of your vehicle's mixture preparation (Gemischaufbereitungs-) and exhaust system for damage.
  2. 2. Engine warm-up : For the measurement, the engine must reach operating temperature (often approximately 80 °C, depending on manufacturer specifications). With a cold engine, this typically takes between 5 and 15 minutes.
  3. 3. Reading via the OBD interface : For newer vehicles, data is read directly via the vehicle's OBD interface (On Board Diagnose). Coolant temperature is determined through the OBD system. For older vehicles, temperature is measured using an oil temperature probe (Öltemperatursonde).
  4. 4. Tailpipe measurement (Endrohrmessung) : Since 1 January 2018, the so-called Endrohrmessung (tailpipe measurement) has been mandatory again, even for vehicles with OBD systems. Emission values are measured at idle speed as well as at increased engine speed and recorded.

Frequently asked questions about AU

Can I have the emissions test performed separately?
The AU may also be performed separately at an approved workshop. In this case, the UMA certificate must be no more than one month old when presented for the main inspection. If you have your HU done with us, the AU is automatically included, a separate test is not required.
My car has OBD, will the tailpipe still be measured?
Yes. Since 1 January 2018, the Endrohrmessung is mandatory again, even for vehicles with OBD systems.
What happens if emission values are exceeded?
If the legal limits are exceeded, repair is required. As part of the main inspection, no TÜV sticker will be issued in this case, the one-month deadline for follow-up inspection applies.
