Frequently asked questions about HU

How often does my vehicle need an HU?
Cars and motorcycles must undergo a main inspection every 2 years. For new vehicles, the first HU is required 3 years after initial registration.
What happens if the deadline is missed?
If the HU is more than two months overdue, an extended HU (vertiefte HU) is carried out. A surcharge of 20% is added to the regular HU fee.
What happens if defects are found?
When defects are identified, the inspection badge is not granted. You have one month to bring the vehicle in for a follow-up inspection. If this deadline passes, a new main inspection is required.
