GAS TEST · DVGW G 607
G 607 Gas Test for Motorhomes and Caravans
Legally required since 19 June 2025, every 24 months for recreational vehicles with liquefied gas systems.
What is it about?
Since 19 June 2025, a uniform legal inspection requirement applies in Germany: All recreational vehicles with permanently installed liquefied gas systems, motorhomes, caravans and trailer caravans, must provide proof of a valid gas test in accordance with DVGW-Arbeitsblatt G 607.
The gas test is an independent inspection, separate from the main inspection (HU). It is carried out by certified inspection engineers and documented in the inspection protocol as well as in the gas inspection booklet („yellow booklet", gelbes Heft).
At the TÜV NORD Station Berlin-Rudow, we carry out the G 607 gas test in accordance with applicable regulations.
Which vehicles need a G 607?
The inspection requirement applies to all recreational vehicles with a liquefied gas system:
- Motorhomes (Wohnmobile)
- Caravans / trailer caravans (Wohnwagen / Caravans)
- Mobile homes (Mobilheime)
What to bring to the gas test
- Vehicle registration certificate Part I (Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I, Fahrzeugschein)
- Yellow inspection booklet (certificate of the previous inspection), if available
- For new installations: certificates of all new gas appliances to be entered in the booklet
- Connected and filled gas cylinder
- Charged on-board battery so all connected appliances can be ignited (not required for piezo ignition)
Please also ensure that all appliances connected to the gas system are in working order.
What is checked during the G 607?
According to a defined inspection plan, the following points are examined among others:
- Securing of the gas cylinders (Halterung)
- Ventilation opening in the gas compartment (Lüftungsöffnung)
- Verification that no electrical fittings are present in the gas compartment
- Tightness of the gas system (Dichtheit)
- Safety valves (Sicherheitsventile)
- Functionality of the gas system
- Age of the connection hose and pressure regulator
- Function of individual gas appliances (e.g. whether all flames burn properly, valves shut off)
- Exhaust pipes (Abgasrohre)
Additionally, all components with a 10-year replacement requirement are checked (pressure regulators, gas hoses, shut-off valves and installed gas cylinders). This requirement derives from the European standards EN 1949 and EN 12864/13786.
The leak tightness test (Dichtheitsprüfung) is part of the G 607: the system is tested for leaks at a pressure of 150 mbar. The pressure may drop by no more than 10 mbar during the test period.
